The Scotiabank Momentum VISA Infinite card was the previous winner, but with implemented changes, and a new challenger, the <a href=\"https:\/\/letstalkaboutmoney.ca\/recommend-scotiabank-gold-american-express\/\">Scotiabank Gold American Express<\/a>, things look different as of October 2019. Let&#8217;s take a look at which card is the best reward credit card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Scotiabank Momentum VISA Infinite Changes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"250\" height=\"158\" src=\"https:\/\/letstalkaboutmoney.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Scotiabank-Momentum-VISA-Infinite.png\" alt=\"Scotiabank Momentum VISA Infinite Credit Card\" class=\"wp-image-2416\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>During 2019, Scotiabank made some changes to their premium cash back credit card, the <a onclick=\"ga('send', 'event', 'referrals', 'click', 'scotia-cc'); return gtag_report_conversion('https:\/\/letstalkaboutmoney.ca\/recommend-scotiabank-momentum-visa-infinite\/');\" href=\"https:\/\/letstalkaboutmoney.ca\/recommend-scotiabank-momentum-visa-infinite\/\">Scotiabank Momentum VISA Infinite<\/a> card:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Lowered the 4% cashback on gas to 2%<\/li><li>Lowered the 2% cashback on pharmacy to 1%<\/li><li>Raised the 2% cashback on bills to 4%<\/li><li>Raised the 1% cashback on daily transit to 2%<\/li><li>Continued to offer 1% cash back on all other purchases <\/li><li>Raised the annual fee from $99 to $120<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These are somewhat minor changes, but affect the overall\ncashback you make in a year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For new customers, they offer a bonus of waiving the $120\nfee for the first year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a style=\"border-bottom: 0px;\" href='https:\/\/letstalkaboutmoney.ca\/recommend-scotiabank-momentum-visa-infinite\/' target='_blank' rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img alt='4 percent Cash Back' src='https:\/\/api.fintelconnect.com\/t\/img\/5e0d6038d096e8001c04240f' \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tangerine Money-Back MasterCard<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"250\" height=\"160\" src=\"https:\/\/letstalkaboutmoney.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Tangerine-Money-Back-MasterCard.png\" alt=\"Tangerine Money-Back MasterCard Credit Card\" class=\"wp-image-2417\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/letstalkaboutmoney.ca\/recommend-tangerine-money-back-mastercard\/\">Tangerine Money-Back MasterCard<\/a> has stayed pretty consistent over the last year, continuing to provide 2% cashback on a variety of spending categories that you get to choose. You can choose 2% back on 3 categories if you bank with Tangerine (and deposit rewards to your savings) or 2% back on 2 categories otherwise. For everything else, Tangerine offers 0.5% cash back, and there is no annual fee for the card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a style=\"border-bottom: 0px;\" href=\"https:\/\/letstalkaboutmoney.ca\/recommend-tangerine-money-back-mastercard\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/api.fintelconnect.com\/t\/img\/5e0bf0476267e8001ac8f255\" alt=\"2% Cashback\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A new challenger: Scotiabank Gold American Express Card<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"250\" height=\"158\" src=\"https:\/\/letstalkaboutmoney.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Scotiabank-Gold-American-Express.png\" alt=\"Scotiabank Gold American Express Credit Card\" class=\"wp-image-2418\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A new contender for best rewards card is the <a href=\"https:\/\/letstalkaboutmoney.ca\/recommend-scotiabank-gold-american-express\/\">Scotiabank Gold American Express Card<\/a>. It offers the following rewards:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>5% on groceries and restaurants<\/li><li>3% on gas and streaming services<\/li><li>1% on everything else<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The caveat here is that to receive the maximum rewards,\npoints need to be redeemed on travel. The plus side is that they can be\nredeemed for any travel that has been purchased with the credit card (not\nbooked through a specific services). The Scotiabank Gold American Express card\nalso has a $120 annual fee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For new customers, they offer a <strong>bonus of $300 worth of travel reward points<\/strong> if you meet the spending thresholds (which are pretty easy to attain).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a style=\"border-bottom: 0px\" href=\"https:\/\/letstalkaboutmoney.ca\/recommend-scotiabank-gold-american-express\/\"><img alt='Scotiabank American Express Gold' src='https:\/\/api.fintelconnect.com\/t\/img\/5efe1062f9860d001dad70d2' \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How do these rewards compare in the real world<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>With all of these different numbers, it can be hard to determine what this means for annual rewards, and which card really is the best reward credit card. This is not to say that this card is the best for every person, they all have pros and cons that depends on the person and how they use it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Scotiabank Gold American Express<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"250\" height=\"158\" src=\"https:\/\/letstalkaboutmoney.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Scotiabank-Gold-American-Express.png\" alt=\"Scotiabank Gold American Express Credit Card\" class=\"wp-image-2418\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>With <strong>$574.88 net rewards<\/strong>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/letstalkaboutmoney.ca\/recommend-scotiabank-gold-american-express\/\">Scotiabank Gold American Express<\/a> comes out on top for me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/letstalkaboutmoney.ca\/recommend-scotiabank-gold-american-express\/\" class=\"button\">Sign-up for the Scotiabank Gold American Express Credit Card<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pros:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Substantial rewards compared to it\u2019s competitors<\/li><li>Travel reward redemption can be used on any\ntravel charged to the card<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cons:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Reward potential only maximized if used on\nredeeming travel (losing the flexibility of a purely cash back card)<\/li><li>American Express is not as widely accepted as\nVISA or MasterCard. To remedy this, I keep my Tangerine No Fee Mastercard for\nmy backup for any place that does not accept American Express<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<p><!--StartFragment--><\/p>\n<p><!--EndFragment--><\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Scotiabank Momentum VISA Infinite<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"250\" height=\"158\" src=\"https:\/\/letstalkaboutmoney.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Scotiabank-Momentum-VISA-Infinite.png\" alt=\"Scotiabank Momentum VISA Infinite Credit Card\" class=\"wp-image-2416\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Even with the changes and the increased annual fee, the <strong>$330.74 net cash back reward<\/strong> slightly tops that offered by the Tangerine MasterCard when not including sign up bonuses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/letstalkaboutmoney.ca\/recommend-scotiabank-momentum-visa-infinite\/\" class=\"button\">Sign-up for the Scotiabank Momentum VISA Infinite Credit Card<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pros:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Cashback rewards provides flexibility of where\nyou can spend rewards<\/li><li>Rewards provide better cash back then most other\ncards on the market<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cons:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Increased annual fee brings the rewards closer\nin line with Tangerine MasterCard<\/li><li>Rewards only paid out once annually<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Tangerine MasterCard<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"250\" height=\"160\" src=\"https:\/\/letstalkaboutmoney.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Tangerine-Money-Back-MasterCard.png\" alt=\"Tangerine Money-Back MasterCard Credit Card\" class=\"wp-image-2417\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The net rewards of  <strong>$314.44<\/strong> make the <a href=\"https:\/\/letstalkaboutmoney.ca\/recommend-tangerine-money-back-mastercard\/\">Tangerine Money-Back MasterCard<\/a> a valuable, with it&#8217;s flexibility of reward categories and no annual fee.
